About Tignes les Boisses

Tignes les Boisses The French village of Tignes Les Boisses lies in the commune of Tignes in the Department of Savoie in the Rhone Alps region of south-eastern France. Tignes Les Boisses rubs shoulders with Tignes-les-Brevieres, Val Claret, Le Lavachet and Tignes le Lac and these five are the only towns in this commune. While Val Claret, Le Lavachet and Tignes le Lac are in the upper Tignes valley at an elevation of 2,100m, Tignes Les Boisses and Tignes-les-Brevieres are found further down the valley near the Tignes Dam. Tignes Les Boisses itself lies above the dam and was, along with the other villages except Tignes-les-Brevieres, built during 1952 when the Tignes Dam was created and the original village of Tignes submerged.

Show sights

Apart from the awesome skiing that can be found around Tignes where the annual snow fall can exceed 4m and the Tignes Les Boisses ski hire shops abound, there are also other places of interest. First on the list is the replica of the church that belonged to the drowned village of Tignes and that was erected in the newly built town in 1952. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, why not explore the beautiful Isere Valley, which is literally on Tignes Les Boisses' doorstep. A ski chair connects Tignes Les Boisses with Tignes-les-Brevieres and thus ensures that Tignes Les Boisses forms part of the world renowned Espace Killy skiing and ski hire area.

Show destinations

The one must-see attraction of the Tignes valley is the enormous fresco of Hercules that was painted on the 181m high Tignes Dam wall by Jean-Marie Pierret in 1989. But visitors flock to Tignes mostly for the superb Tignes Les Boisses ski hire facilities and skiing area on and around the nearby Grande Motte Glacier, which is open for skiing almost all year round. Avid skiers will also enjoy the new Swatch Snowpark with its freestyle course where the skier is videotaped during his jump and the tape then played on the giant screen for all to see. Further winter sports offered in the area include ice skating, paragliding and dog sledding. And when those summer months roll by, you can choose between such fun activities as archery, golf and visiting the new Acroland where the adventurous combine skiing, mountain-biking and diving! But the ski enthusiast will always come back to pure skiing and, in Tignes Les Boisses, they will have found the perfect ski and ski hire resort.
