Village information La Plagne Montchavin, France
About La Plagne Montchavin
La Plagne, featuring eleven world class resorts famous for their skiing and ski hire, is located in the Tarentaise Valley in the Rhone Alps' Savoie region. La Plagne is huge and stretches over four skiing communities: Macot-La Plange, Aime, Champagny-et-Vanoise and Bellentre. Its highest point, being on top of the Glacier de la Chiaupe on the mammoth mountain Bellacote, is a whopping 10,660 feet above sea level and even the lowest point, the village of Monchavin, is a sky-scraping 4,100 feet. The nearest city is Albertville, home to the 1992 Winter Olympics, but it cannot compete with the superb La Plagne / Les Arcs Paradiski resorts when it comes to skiing and ski hire. La Plagne has a population of 4,250 and the languages spoken in the area include French, Basque and Corsican.
Show sights
When it comes to skiing and ski hire, La Plagne is unsurpassed and is a must see for any skier. What other resort complex can offer 134 slopes graded from beginner through expert, a total ski area exceeding 38 square miles and the massive Bellecote north face off-skiing area? Add the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton tracks built for the 1992 Winter Olympics and visitors will find themselves being spoiled for choice. But the hardest choice will be deciding which of the 11 resorts to stay at: will it be Aime-La Plagne, the "Steamer in The Snow", with its quaint Tibetan influence, Plagne 1800 where the rustic chalets sport the traditional blue quartz roofs or perhaps the original resort, Plagne Center, which has entertained the La Plagne ski hire and skiing community for almost 50 years. And not to be forgotten is the resort's superb infrastructure featuring 2 cable cars - the speedy Vanoise Express and the Telemetro - 38 drag lifts, 36 chairlifts and 8 gondolas. And if you want to take a break from skiing, why not try paragliding or perhaps a helicopter ride around the mountains? But no-one should visit La Plagne without partaking of its awesome skiing and ski hire opportunities...
Show destinations
If you are able to tear yourself away from the resort attractions, there is much to do in the area. You could catch the Pass Glacier telecabin and marvel at the ice sculptures in the glacier's ice cave or perhaps visit the tranquil Vanoise National Park. But nothing could, and should, detract from the wonderful skiing and ski hire amenities that La Plagne has to offer.
