About Risoul 1850
Halfway between the towns of Gap and Briancon you will find Risoul 1850, a fabulous world famous ski resort. The town of Risoul, including the resort itself and its attendant ski hire facilities, is classified as a commune and lies in the Hautes-Alpes Department of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Region of south-eastern France. Visitors travelling to Risoul would do well to fly into Italy's Turin airport and then drive to the resort or, alternatively, transfer from Marseille, Grenoble or Chambery. With only 622 residents, Risoul is not the most densely populated of the French ski resorts. Almost inevitably, most of the inhabitants are involved in the skiing industry, either running the Risoul ski hire operations or managing the ski accommodations. Risoul is also famous for its sunny days and 300 straight days of sunshine is the local record!
Show sights
The Risoul 1850 resort - named as such as it lies 1,850 feet above sea level - teams up with the resort at nearby Vars to make the Foret Blanche ski / ski hire complex. Foret Blanche lies between the Ecrins and Queyras National Parks and the two resorts offer the discerning skier 110 miles of action packed pistes, outstanding snowboarding facilities and 55 ski lifts, ski chairs and cable cars. Skiers should also investigate the Risoul snowparks, especially the Surfland Snowpark, which is of such a high standard that it was designated one of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics' formal training areas. Paragliding, ice skating and snowshoe walking are further attractions that this amazing resort has to offer and there is also the Le Lutin merry-go-round especially for the little ones. And should the slopes and ski hire shops be closed, why not discover the mountains by joining a snowmobile expedition.
