About La Colmiane Valdeblore

La Colmiane is a resort specializing in ski and ski hire located in the French commune of Valdeblore in the Alpes-Maritime Department of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Region of south-eastern France. It isn't the most populated commune in France but the number of inhabitants has been steadily increasing and climbed from just under 600 in 1960 to 796 in 2005. La Colmiane is only an hour away from the Mediterranean coast and the easiest way to get there would be to fly into Nice and then to take a bus to the resort itself. La Colmiane is one of several small villages in the Valdeblore commune, with Saint Dalmas and La Bolline being two of the others.

Show sights

There is much to do in Valdeblore apart from enjoying the superb La Colmiane ski hire and skiing, and visitors should make time to see the sites. On top of the list is the St Croix priory: the only church in Europe where the interior wall surfaces have been preserved in their original state. Make sure to see the priory's two thousand year old crypts as well as the baroque 18th century fittings; it is not for nothing that this church was declared an historical monument in 1943. Valdeblore also has a second church, St Jacques le Majeur, as well as a museum showcasing the region and both are well worth visiting. And, of course, many winter sports are offered by La Colmiane along with its ski hire facilities, including tobogganing and a snow garden for young skiers.

Show destinations

The magnificent Cote d'Azur beaches are just an hour away and truly La Colmiane's snow and the Cote d'Azur's sand will give you the best of both worlds. And then there is the cosmopolitan Mecca of Nice, which is just a short drive from La Colmiane and which is second only to Paris for museums, churches and other attractions. Engross yourself in the Nice Archeological Museum's exhibits and then transport yourself to Tsarist Russia by visiting the Russian Cathedral before browsing through the many photographs at the Theatre de la Photographie et de l'Image. For a change of pace, why not take in the Cours Saleya Flower Market and then view the entrancing paintings at the museums dedicated to the works of artists Chagall and Matisse. And after that, be sure to hurry back to La Colmiane for more ski hire and skiing on those crisp Alpine slopes.
