About Isola 2000

Isola 2000 The winter sports resort "Isola 2000" (also just called Isola) lies within the French maritime alps in the Département Allies-Maritines, right in the Parc national du Mercantour. This area, called "Alpe Ciastiglione" (French: Chastillou), lies beyond the boarder pass Col de la Lombard and is part of France since 1947. There, the ski resort was founded as an "integrated station" in a height of 2000 meters. The station itself was built in 1974 not for optically elegancy but for functionality.
The tourist housings consist of departments, all interconnected by a large shopping center. The advance of this is the fact that the tourists don't have to leave the warmness to go shopping or having a coffee or tea.
It can accommodate about 8000 vacationers, 500 habitants live and work here all year long as bakers, butchers, in a ski hire in Isola 2000.
The slopes start straight next to this apartment-station, one could say right in front of one's door.
They have a collective length of 120 kilometers and extend from 1800 up to 2610 meters in altitude. They are composed of four black (approx. 14km), 14 red (approx. 60km), 21 blue (approx. 31km) and seven green (approx. 14km) ski trails, waiting to get driven by one with his own skies or borrowed ones from the Isola 2000 ski hire. Furthermore, there are three kilometers of cross country ski runs and a snow park, a half pipe and one boarder cross each year for snowboarders. Two gondolas, 10 chair-lifts and 12 drag lifts stand by to deliver up to 20.000 people per hour up the 2610 meters of fine white snow.
