If you’re hungry after a day of skiing, stop at Schonangeralm Dairy for cheese tasting and the area’s famous schnapps. Tyrol’s first Wood Museum, established by carver Hubert Schaler, is well worth a visit. There are a variety of exhibits, not least of which includes wooden instruments and wooden underwear.

Walk along the contemplative St. Francis’ Path between Niederau and Oberau. 9 sculptures by Hunert Flörl are set against the Wildschönau landscape, inspired by St Francis of Assisi’s songs. Halfway along the path is Z’Bach Mountain Farmer’s Museum, a 200-year old farmhouse turned into a museum about life as a mountain farmer.
