About Nauders

Nauders Nauders is a small and friendly town on the Reschen Pass very close to the Austrian, Swiss and Italian borders. The town is on a hill 1300 miles above sea level, with a population of 1,600, located in the district of Landeck in Tyrol, Austria. The closest airports are Innsbruck, a 2 hour trip, followed by Munich and Salzburg, both 3 hours away. The area is well equipped for every taste and level of activity, all year round, from summer hiking trails, mountain-biking, and fishing to winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding and horse-sled rides. Indoor activities include ice skating and carving lessons. Ski hire is available in many locations in the town.

Show sights

Nauders is still surrounded by the medieval walls of the original town. Amongst the sights to see in Nauders is one of the oldest Roman Catholic cathedrals, the Nauderberg Castle, built in 1200, which contains a restaurant and museum and has exhibits showing how local inhabitants lived in bygone years. The present day residents are involved in farming and the tourism industry, but in less peaceful times, Nauders was caught in the middle of the war between Switzerland and Austria, the marks of which are still visible on the castle today. Nauders has about 20 restaurants, 10 pubs and a disco.
The resort facilities include a public indoor swimming pool and sauna, hot springs, fitness centre, casino, cinema and many other entertainments. Shopping is easy with many shops in Nauders selling local carved artwork and other souvenirs, ski hire in Nauders is also available.

Show destinations

A dramatic site, not to be missed, can be seen just down the road from the village where the small settlement of Alt-Graun was transformed into Lake Reschen, leaving only the church steeple protruding from the waters. Most striking in the winter months, when the church spire is trapped by frozen waters of the lake, the area attracts many tourists who enjoy photographing the spectacle. The famous fairytale castles at Oberinntal make an ideal day trip that can also include the nearby caves. In almost any direction from Nauders there are breathtaking green and black lakes, majestic mountain passes and quaint villages to please visitors.
The main reason tourists come to Nauders is of course the excellent skiing opportunities offered in the area. When buying the Reschen Pass Skiparadies lift pass, visitors are able to use three small resorts, each in one country, Bergkastel Nauders in Austria, Haider Alm in Italy and Schöneben Belpiano in Switzerland. Nauders ski hire shops offer the chance to book online before you go, to ensure the best fit, so consider using this service for Ski hire in Nauders and the surrounding areas.
