About Kappl
Kappl has been inhabited for over eight centuries. The land in the Paznaun Valley was pasture land during the 13th century and in 1248 the region around Kappl came under the jurisdiction of the courts of Tyrol. Over the next six centuries Kappl experienced dramatic events that created great poverty, as well as battles for land and political control. Tourism made its way to Kappl and to villages in the Paznaun Valley in the middle of the 20th century and that brought a new quality of life to the local residents. There was a major flood in the valley in 2005. Thirty percent of the roads were buried and under water for several weeks. All traces of the flood are long gone, so the Kappl ski hire area continues to offer guests all the charm, hospitality and character of a culturally rich Austrian village.
