About Obertauern

Obertauern is very famous winter center and popular tourist destination in Austria, located in the Radstadter Tauern district in the southeast part of Bundesland of Salzburg. The elevation is between 1630 and 2526 meters above the sea level. This tourist place is divided into two different townships: Untertauern (Pongau) and Tweng (Lungau).

The main attraction of this place is the ski center offering high quality vacation throughout the year especially from the period of November till April when there is snow and everything is white. The ski pistes are approximatly 100 km long and you find a shop for ski hire in Obertauern to rent snowboards or other winter equipment. Sixty (60) percent of the ski area marked as easy, 36 percent is marked as intermediate and only four percent is marked as difficult and for proffesionals. There are 26 ski lifts with a possibility to transport 45 000 people per hour. You can find very big parking place for vehicles for people coming here only for daytrips. There is a Obertauern ski hire shop that provides skis and other equipment for the visitors. The shops of ski hire Obertauern are visited often because of the one day trips. Cross country lovers also can satisfy their needs in this place because of the 26 km cross country trail that also can be used for walking tours. As a true tourist attraction for winter, this town offers vide range of hotels for lodging, different restaurants and cafe bars, local shops, etc. In Obertauern you can find the official Olympic Center. This is a place where all the sportists and visitors can practice different sports. This center has two indoor tennis courts, badmington court, three bowling alleys, billiard room, high quality fitness and bodybuilding room, etc. One of the most famous people training in the Olympic Center were Hermann Maier and Michael Walchhofer who used to practice between the races held at this ski center. At the end of the day, after different snow activities, tourists can spend the night in some of the nightbars or nightclubs. If you still like the idea of skiing, there is an option to take a night skiing only at one of the pistes.

The city of Salzburg is located 90 km away from Obertauern and you have to take a day off from skiing to visit this large city.
