About Filzmoos
Filzmoos is a hidden treasure in the Alps. The town is situated at the base of the Bischofsmutze Mountain at an elevation of 1057 meters (3500 feet), thus guaranteeing winter snow. The population of 1500 is friendly and welcoming. The resort is only 60 kilometers from Salzburg and can be accessed from three major airports within a two hour drive of the resort.
Filzmoos is an ideal winter vacation spot for new skiers, or families with children. Eighty percent of the downhill runs are at the beginner/intermediate level. Families can ride the gondola to the top, and ski down into the village. Ski hire in Filzmoos is very popular. The ski schools and ski hire shops cater to young children. The village of Filzmoos offers an array of restaurants serving everything from traditional Salzburg beef dishes to pizza. The town has several bars and restaurants featuring music and dancing. Families particularly like the Filzmoos Leisure Center which offers indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, children’s area, and even bowling.
In addition to skiing, the town has winter hiking trails which lead to cosy mountain huts. Snowshoers, hikers and cross-country skiers can enjoy hot drinks and snacks as they explore the mountain. Families can also enjoy a 3 kilometer toboggan run, and sleigh rides.
In the second week of January, Filzmoos hosts a hot air balloon event. Visitors have the unforgettable opportunity to go on a balloon ride through the mountains.
Show destinations
There are numerous attractions just outside of Filzmoos. The Dachstein sky walk is only 14 kilometers from town. It offers an incredible view of the Alps from a glass platform on top of the mountain. Visitors can also explore the inside of a glacier at the Dachstein Ice Palace.
Also nearby are the Loden textile factory in Ramsau and the Salt Mines of Hallein. Tourists should not miss the historical Mauterndorft Castle on the way to Salzburg. Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, has a huge array of museums, castles, places, shops, and music.
